Department of Social Services Mission Statement
The Alexander County Department of Social Services administers federal, state, and county programs focused on improving the well-being and self-sufficiency of our citizens. We strive to protect vulnerable people (children, older adults, and disabled) from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We are committed to caring for our community and dedicated to advocating for these in need.
The Alexander County Department of Social Services, along with the Health Department and Senior Center, report to the Alexander County Consolidated Health and Human Services Director.
DSS Programs Support the Community
- Health – Medicaid Services and Food and Nutrition supports the general health and well-being of citizens
- Economy – Food and Nutrition, Child Care, Work First, Crisis Intervention, and Child Support provides benefits that clients use locally to achieve self-sufficiency and well-being.
- Protect from and/or recovery from abuse or neglect – Families, children and adults are supported to ensure stable, healthy households for immediate and long term success.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county law and policy –Programs are administered in a way that protects citizen’s rights and maximizes the use of available funding.
