Work First

Work First Family Assistance

  • Work First provides parents (with a child under age 18) with short-term training and other services to help them become employed and move toward self-sufficiency. Eligibility is determined based on family income and assets.
  • The Work First 200% & Emergency Assistance can be provided to a family in a financial crisis. Assistance with power, water, rent, car repair, etc. to help working families remain employed.
  • North Carolina’s Work First (WF) program is based on the premise that parents have a responsibility to support themselves and their children.
  • Grandparents and relatives who are caring for their relative’s children can receive services and support to enable that care to continue.
